Call to bookSome calls are about comfort and the power bill, others about a fan that makes people nervous.
Upstairs bedrooms and west-facing lounges with no cross breeze stay hot. A fan costs a fraction of air conditioning to run.
As bearings wear, older fans hum, click or grind, and a fading capacitor slows them down. The noise rarely gets better.
Most wobble is warped blades or loose screws. A bracket held only by plasterboard is the worry, because it works loose.
The power is already at the light point, but it is rarely fixed to anything strong enough to hold a fan.
Near the beach, standard fans rust at the fittings and motor housing. Corroded fans get noisy and the fixings can loosen.
An indoor fan on an alfresco or verandah cops damp air and wind it was never rated for, and usually fails early.

The ceiling, more than the fan, decides how involved each of these jobs gets.

We run cable through the roof space, brace between the joists and wire a wall switch or controller. This needs roof access.

We swap the old fan out after checking the bracket and wiring. Simple, if the old mount is up to it.

An LED fan light replaces the main light fitting. The fan and light can be switched separately.

Quieter than AC, with more speeds and lower running costs. Most come with a remote, and many suit a wall controller.

Fans rated for covered outdoor areas, plus corrosion-resistant models for homes near the water, where salt eats standard hardware.

We check the mount, balance the blades and test the controls, and tell you if a worn motor is worth fixing.
Most of the work happens in the ceiling before the fan comes out of the box.
Blades must sit at least 2.1 metres off the floor. A standard 2.4 metre ceiling usually needs a low-profile fan, so we measure first.
The blade span has to suit the room, clear doors and pendant lights, and not blow straight across a smoke alarm.
From the roof space we fix the bracket to a joist or fit a timber brace between joists. Raked ceilings get an angled mount.
The fan goes on its own switch or wall controller. We pair any remote and connect the light kit.
We run every speed and reverse, balance out the wobble, test the circuit and lodge the certificate with Building Commission NSW.
Photographs of jobs we finished and handed back. Our own work, not stock.

From the first phone call to the final test, this is how it runs.
Day or night. Tell us what is happening. If it sounds dangerous, we tell you what to switch off while we get moving.
Urgent faults go to the next available electrician. Planned work gets a set day so you are not waiting around.
We work out what is actually wrong on site rather than guessing over the phone. The visit costs you nothing.
Written down and explained before anyone starts. Nothing happens until you say yes.
Done to the Wiring Rules with the right parts. Dust sheets go down wherever we are working.
Every circuit we touch is tested before we leave. Where the law requires a compliance certificate, you get one.
The quote is the invoice. Our labour stays guaranteed for as long as you own the property.

You can hold us to these on every job.
Coming out to look costs nothing, day or night, whether you go ahead or not.
Agreed before work starts. The quote is the invoice.
If something unforeseen turns up, we stop and talk to you first.
If our workmanship fails, we come back and fix it, for as long as you own the property.
Our labour guarantee is extra to your rights under Australian Consumer Law and the NSW Home Building Act.
Fans usually give plenty of warning, and only the first two here are urgent.
The mount is loose, so turn it off at the wall until it is checked.
The motor or wiring is overheating. Switch off at the wall and switchboard, then ring us.
Usually blade balance or loose blade screws. Fix it before it works the mount loose.
An old motor with worn bearings or a tired capacitor is often not worth repairing.
In an AC fan, that is a classic failing capacitor.
Usually the light kit or controller, sometimes a loose connection in the canopy.
Corrosion weakens the fixings. Near the coast, swap to a fan built for salt air.
The canopy receiver has probably failed or lost its pairing, and usually needs replacing.
If the fan moves at the ceiling or smells hot, switch it off and ring us. The rest can wait.

The job is the same, but ceilings and running hours differ.

Bedrooms and living areas first, then the alfresco. In apartments we check for a slab ceiling and the strata by-laws before quoting.

Café and office fans run long hours, so the fixing and balance matter more. Strata common areas need fans that are easy to maintain.
We take ceiling fan installs right across Sydney, up the Central Coast and into the Blue Mountains. Open your area to find your suburb.

The hardest part of getting electrical work done in Sydney is not the work. It is finding someone who shows up when they said they would, tells you the price before they start, and does not leave you chasing them for a certificate afterwards.
We work across Sydney and the suburbs around it, including Sydenham, Sydney, Sydney Olympic Park. The price is agreed before anything starts, coming out to look costs nothing, and the labour is guaranteed for as long as you own the place.
Sydney has the mix you find across a lot of Sydney: older homes still running the board they were built with, sitting next to places that have been renovated two or three times. Both throw up their own problems, and both are jobs we do every week.
Older wiring around Sydney was never designed for the load a modern kitchen puts on it. Add an induction cooktop or a second fridge and the weak point shows up quickly.
The part people underestimate is the mounting, not the wiring. A fan puts a constant vibrating load on the ceiling, so it has to be fixed to something structural. Screwing a fan into plasterboard alone is how they end up wobbling and eventually coming loose.
If you are replacing an existing light with a fan, there is often no separate switch for the fan speed, so that needs running or a remote fitted. Worth knowing before you buy the fan.
In older Sydney homes the ceiling rose may not be in the middle of the room, which matters more with a fan than with a light. We can usually move it, but it is easier to know that before we start.
A lot of it is previous work. Extensions, added outlets and half finished jobs by whoever was cheapest at the time. You end up with a system nobody has ever looked at as a whole.
Water gets in more often than people expect. A roof leak above a light fitting, condensation in an outdoor outlet, or a subfloor that stays damp will all eventually cause tripping.
We do not publish a price for this, and you should be careful of anyone who does. Two houses in Sydney on the same street can need very different work depending on the age of the wiring and what has been added to it over the years.
What we can promise is the shape of it. We come out and look for nothing, we work out what the job actually needs, and we give you one fixed number for the whole thing. If we find something unexpected once we are into it, we stop and talk to you rather than adding it to the bill. The number you agreed is the number on the invoice.
Plenty of electricians around Sydney charge by the hour. It sounds cheaper and often is not, because you are carrying all the risk. If the job takes longer than expected, that is your problem. If someone is slow, that is also your problem.
We price the job, not the time. That means we carry the risk of it taking longer, which is a good incentive for us to turn up prepared. It also means you can say yes or no with the full number in front of you.
Almost nothing, and that is not us protecting our own work. In New South Wales it is against the law for an unlicensed person to do fixed electrical wiring, and the insurance consequences of a fire traced back to unlicensed work are severe. Replacing a plug top on an appliance or changing a lamp is fine. Anything behind the wall or inside the board is not.
The most helpful thing you can do is pay attention to the pattern. Does it trip only when the dryer runs? Only when it rains? Only in one room? That detail often points straight at the fault and saves a lot of hunting.
If you rent, electrical repairs to the property itself are the owner's responsibility, and urgent electrical faults fall under urgent repairs in New South Wales. Talk to your agent first. If it is genuinely dangerous, say so clearly, because that changes how quickly it has to be dealt with.
If you manage a strata block around Sydney, we can work on common property and bill the body corporate directly, and we can keep the same electrician on your building so nobody is relearning the site every visit.
The ones we get asked most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
Usually, yes. The light point has power but is rarely strong enough for a fan, so we brace it from the roof space. With no access above, say a ceiling under another storey, we talk through options before quoting.
The lowest point of the blades must be at least 2.1 metres above the floor. On a standard 2.4 metre ceiling that means a low-profile or close-to-ceiling fan. Higher or raked ceilings give more choice and may need a longer downrod.
If the fan runs most summer nights, usually yes. DC motors use less power, run quieter and have more speeds, which matters most in bedrooms. AC fans cost less to buy and work with a simple wall speed controller.
Yes. Check it suits your ceiling height and room size, and that it is outdoor rated if it is going outside. Send us the model beforehand and we can flag any mounting or control problems.
Mostly the ceiling. An existing point, roof space access, ceiling height and any new cable run or wall controller all change the job. Swapping a fan on a sound point is simplest, and you get one fixed price once we have looked.
Often, but check your strata by-laws first and whether there is a ceiling cavity. Concrete slab ceilings need a different fixing, and some buildings want approval before ceiling work. We can come and tell you what is involved.
Only if the fan is rated for that spot. Outdoor areas need an outdoor-rated fan, and bathrooms have zones around the shower and bath where most fans cannot go. We check the rating against the location before fitting.
Yes. Installing or replacing a fan is electrical wiring work, so in NSW it needs a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, even for a straight swap. We lodge it with Building Commission NSW and you get a copy.
