Call to book
No call-out fee, day or night. We look at the job and give you a fixed price before anyone picks up a tool.
Call nowThese are the usual reasons an alarm on the ceiling stops working.
Sensors lose sensitivity with age, so Fire and Rescue NSW says to replace alarms at least every 10 years.
Renovation dust and small bugs get into the sensing chamber and set off random alarms in the middle of the night.
Put it near the kitchen, bathroom or an air con outlet and it reacts to toast and steam, or misses the smoke.
Ionisation alarms are slower to pick up smouldering fires, the common kind in homes. Fire and Rescue NSW recommends photoelectric.
On a hardwired alarm, no green light means lost mains power, often a tripped circuit. The backup battery won't last.
Ceiling paint over the vents can stop smoke getting in at all. It looks fine but may not detect anything.

We can fit to the NSW legal minimum or to the fuller Fire and Rescue NSW recommendation.

Mains powered photoelectric alarms with a backup battery, so nobody has to remember batteries. New homes and major renovations need them.

Linked by cable or wireless, so smoke at one alarm sets off the rest. Useful in two storey homes and long layouts.

The sealed battery lasts the life of the alarm. It suits places where running cable through the ceiling isn't practical.

We swap expired alarms for new photoelectric ones, with a matching base where possible so the ceiling doesn't need fresh holes.

Every alarm gets tested and its date checked. Removable batteries are changed and anything failed or expired is replaced.
Getting the position right matters as much as the alarm itself.
We go through every storey, note where the bedrooms are, and check the age and type of your current alarms.
Alarms go in the hallway outside bedrooms and on every level, clear of corners and steam, following NSW rules and the maker's instructions.
You get one price for the alarms and wiring before we start. Going beyond the legal minimum is your call.
Hardwired alarms are cabled to a circuit on your board, then interconnected by cable or wireless module if the job includes it.
Every alarm gets tested, including a check that one sets off the rest. Then we show you how to test and hush them.
Hardwired alarm work is electrical work, so we lodge a CCEW with Building Commission NSW and give you a copy.
Photographs of jobs we finished and handed back. Our own work, not stock.

From the first phone call to the final test, this is how it runs.
Day or night. Tell us what is happening. If it sounds dangerous, we tell you what to switch off while we get moving.
Urgent faults go to the next available electrician. Planned work gets a set day so you are not waiting around.
We work out what is actually wrong on site rather than guessing over the phone. The visit costs you nothing.
Written down and explained before anyone starts. Nothing happens until you say yes.
Done to the Wiring Rules with the right parts. Dust sheets go down wherever we are working.
Every circuit we touch is tested before we leave. Where the law requires a compliance certificate, you get one.
The quote is the invoice. Our labour stays guaranteed for as long as you own the property.

You can hold us to these on every job.
Coming out to look costs nothing, day or night, whether you go ahead or not.
Agreed before work starts. The quote is the invoice.
If something unforeseen turns up, we stop and talk to you first.
If our workmanship fails, we come back and fix it, for as long as you own the property.
Our labour guarantee is extra to your rights under Australian Consumer Law and the NSW Home Building Act.
If any of these sound familiar, the alarm is telling you something.
Most likely a low battery, or a flat backup battery on a hardwired alarm.
Time to replace it, even if the test button still beeps.
The position is usually the problem. Move or change the alarm instead of pulling the battery.
It has lost mains power, so check the board for a tripped circuit first.
Yellowing usually means an old alarm, so check the date and plan a replacement.
NSW law requires at least one working alarm on every level.
Interconnected alarms all sound together, wherever the smoke starts.
If there's smoke, get out and call 000. Otherwise switch off the main and ring us.
Any real smoke is a 000 call first. For everything else, one of these is enough to book a check.

The legal minimum is the same in every home, but who is responsible for it changes.

Owners need a working alarm on every level, and interconnected photoelectric alarms go further.

Landlords have yearly duties under NSW tenancy rules. Building fire panels are a fire services job.

Booking an electrician in Sydney usually starts badly. Something has tripped, something smells hot, or a job you thought was small has turned into a bigger one. What you want at that point is a straight answer about what it will take and what it will cost, not a rate per hour and a shrug.
We cover Sydney along with Sydenham, Sydney, Sydney Olympic Park and the rest of Sydney. You get a fixed price up front, there is no call out fee, and our labour carries a lifetime guarantee.
Sydney has the mix you find across a lot of Sydney: older homes still running the board they were built with, sitting next to places that have been renovated two or three times. Both throw up their own problems, and both are jobs we do every week.
Renovating in Sydney is usually when the wiring gets looked at properly for the first time in decades. Better to know before the walls close up.
Most of what we find comes down to load. The house is doing far more electrically than it was built to do, and the weakest joint in the chain is where it shows up first.
Rodents are a genuine cause and an unglamorous one. Possums and rats in the roof chew cable insulation, and the fault that follows can be intermittent and hard to trace.
We do not publish a price for this, and you should be careful of anyone who does. Two houses in Sydney on the same street can need very different work depending on the age of the wiring and what has been added to it over the years.
What we can promise is the shape of it. We come out and look for nothing, we work out what the job actually needs, and we give you one fixed number for the whole thing. If we find something unexpected once we are into it, we stop and talk to you rather than adding it to the bill. The number you agreed is the number on the invoice.
An hourly rate puts the risk on you. Every delay, every trip back to the van, every part that turns out to be the wrong one lands on your invoice. That is the opposite of what most people in Sydney actually want, which is to know the number before they say yes.
We price the job, not the time. That means we carry the risk of it taking longer, which is a good incentive for us to turn up prepared. It also means you can say yes or no with the full number in front of you.
Almost nothing, and that is not us protecting our own work. In New South Wales it is against the law for an unlicensed person to do fixed electrical wiring, and the insurance consequences of a fire traced back to unlicensed work are severe. Replacing a plug top on an appliance or changing a lamp is fine. Anything behind the wall or inside the board is not.
What you can usefully do is narrow it down before you ring. Note which circuit trips, whether it trips straight away or after something specific gets switched on, and whether it started after a storm or a new appliance. That saves time on site.
If you rent, electrical repairs to the property itself are the owner's responsibility, and urgent electrical faults fall under urgent repairs in New South Wales. Talk to your agent first. If it is genuinely dangerous, say so clearly, because that changes how quickly it has to be dealt with.
If you manage a strata block around Sydney, we can work on common property and bill the body corporate directly, and we can keep the same electrician on your building so nobody is relearning the site every visit.
The ones we get asked most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
At least one working smoke alarm complying with AS 3786 on every level of the home, under NSW planning regulations. That covers houses, apartments and rentals. On a level with bedrooms, it should be in the hallway or area outside them.
Not in an existing home, where the law only asks for AS 3786 alarms on every level. Fire and Rescue NSW recommends interconnected photoelectric alarms in bedrooms, living areas and hallways because they respond better to smouldering fires. New homes and major renovations must have hardwired alarms under the building code.
Either is legal in an existing home. Hardwired alarms with a backup battery don't rely on anyone changing batteries, and new builds and major renovations need them. Where running cable is difficult, a 10 year sealed lithium alarm is a solid middle ground.
Check alarms every year, replace removable batteries yearly, replace alarms within 10 years of manufacture, and repair or replace a faulty one within 2 business days of finding out. Hardwired alarms must be fixed by a licensed electrician. These duties can't be handed to the tenant.
Tell your landlord or agent first. You're allowed to change a removable battery yourself, as long as you let them know. A hardwired alarm needs a licensed electrician, which the landlord should arrange within 2 business days.
No. Hardwired alarms run on 240V, which in NSW is work for a licensed electrician only, and the job needs a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work lodged with Building Commission NSW.
Book any service and we check your smoke alarms while we're there: how many, where, what type, their dates and whether they work. If anything needs changing, you get a fixed price and the choice is yours.
Ring us on 0449 154 812, which is answered 24/7. In the meantime, check the board for a tripped circuit and leave the alarm on the ceiling. If it keeps sounding with no smoke, the hush button usually buys some quiet.
